Summer Company Mentors Corner
“The knowledge and skills gained through Summer Company are important, but it is the unique perspective of owning your own business that is the most significant benefit of the program.
As a Summer Company participant 8 years ago, the program has helped me get my first few co-op jobs while in University and upon graduation. Now I have made the decision to be a full time Entrepreneur and return back to the City of Kawartha Lakes to run a business. The program is very important for this area because a large percentage of the jobs in the area are small businesses and self created. More importantly, from my perspective, these Entrepreneurial careers/jobs are the best because they provide the highest level of self fulfillment.
Entrepreneurship can be scary, because every want-to-be entrepreneur will need to make that hard decision to quit their job and go-it-alone. This program gives young people the opportunity to find out what it is like, during a time in their lives when they do not depend on the income and the risks are small. This is a phenomenal program that has helped shape who I am today, that is why I have decided to be a Summer Company Mentor.”
